Trip to D.C.

Hello Family,

We took a trip to D.C. over Spring Break. Torrey's older sister was going and we thought it would be fun to tag along.

I was suprised to see how beautiful the city was. We caught the end of the cherry blossoms, but the dogwoods were blooming and they were gorgeous! I want to find some for my new yard. I was also suprised at how busy the city was with tourists. The lines into everything were worse than Disneyland! We had to get up EARLY (especially two hours ahead of Utah time) to get tickets to the Washington Monument and the Bureau of Engraving & Printing. Our Congressman's office took us on a tour of the Capitol, which was fascinating. We also loved the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetary. The 3 Smithsonian museums we got to see were incredible (there are over 15 in the city). We barely got into the National Archives where they keep the original documents of the Magna Carta, Declaration of Indepence, Constitution, Bill of Rights, and many others. It was interesting but not like the movie National Treasure! The kids loved the National Zoo, the C & O Canal ride and the Metro (their subway system.) There was so much walking! I wished I had worn a pedometer so we knew how many miles we walked! Brooklyn was such a trooper and kept right up with us.

We drove down to Mount Vernon and loved it there. So beautiful and interesting. We happened to be there on the first day of their garden festival so we got to go on hayrides and play games in the gardens. We also drove up to Gettysburg that same day but didnt' get to see much because we ran out of daylight. On our way back to D.C. we drove past the D.C. temple which is stunning.

We easily could have stayed another week, but back to real life. We are stir crazy in our apartment. Last week Mom came down and Brooklyn, Kate and I stayed at her hotel and swam. It was fun, though I think she was tired after Kate kept her up all night. Torrey is swamped as he finishes up the last of this semester. He is paying for the week he took off for vacation. It will be nice to see more of him for a couple weeks before his next semester starts. We should be in our house by the end of May.

Love to all!
Jill

I am so glad you got to see all that. Isn't it amazing!! Did you see the DC temple at night??
Which Smithsonians did you see?
Air and Space? The History one with the original Star Spangled Banner flag??
I wish we could have also seen Mt Vernon and Gettysburg? Did you see Arlington Cemetery?? I can't remember and I can't go back and look now that I'm in here commenting
I loved hearing about it...
Let's have a reunion there sometime :-)

There are so many neat places in the world to see--someday we'll get to twinkle around to all of them and maybe even to "infinity and beyond......."

I heard you mom was in Utah getting training for her new job-
WOW!!

Hang in there--how long till we move in??
Hey, our seminary teacher is leaving-we are sad after 10 years...
They are looking for another one and said it will probably be a young person who is more willing to go strange places to get in the system... Apply Torrey!! :-)

Jill & Torrey
It was so fun to read about your trip to WDC. It brought back memories of when we were there a few years ago. You must have had a very good time. We need more pictures if possible. Thanks for the one you sent.
